The Bordeaux marketing association CIVB has unanimously decided to have a reserve stock of bottles stored by the companies. The aim is to reduce the red wine stocks of Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur on offer and thus prevent the quantity from growing any further. CIVB Chairman Bernard Farges explained that the balance between supply and demand had to be readjusted. Currently, there was a lack of balance between the quantities of crops adopted and demand.

During the 2019-2020 sales season, the quantity of 2.2 million hectolitres of stored Bordeaux will be reached. This is an increase of 21 percent in just one year. For Bordeaux Supérieur, the quantity is around 1.05 million hectolitres, an increase of 14 percent. Since the trend is towards even higher stocks, regulations for reduction must now be found.
