The members of the Consortium Vino Bardolino have decided to separate the Chiaretto from the DOC Bardolino. The "Chiaretto di Bardolino" will have its own DOC from the 2018 harvest. Both designations of origin will thus receive a new set of rules with higher quality requirements.

For Chiaretto and Bardolino, the maximum yield of 13 will be limited to twelve tonnes of grapes per hectare. The maximum proportion of Corvina grapes will be increased from 80 to 95 percent in both DOCs. The consortium also stipulated that only freshly harvested grapes may be used in the DOC Bardolino. Overripe or dried berries are thus prohibited. Bardolino wants to clearly distinguish itself from the neighbouring Valpolicella

For Bardolino DOC, three zones are also being introduced: La Rocca, Montebaldo and Sommacampagna. The yield limit for these wines is now 10 tons of grapes per hectare.
