The German trademark protection company Kurz Scribos from Fürth claims to make the authentication of wine bottles possible with a digital system using a smartphone. The approximately 170 Cru Bourgeois wineries in Bordeaux have announced that they will use it: This aims to minimize the risks of manipulation and counterfeiting with globalized supply chains, growing online trade, and more complex distribution structures.
Kurz Scribos specializes in authentication through the combination of optical security features and digital tools. The verification is done by simply scanning a QR code on the label. It directs the user to a secure digital platform where each individual bottle can be traced. Additionally, the scan provides access to a winery profile with product information. This allows each bottle to be uniquely assigned to a winery, a vintage, and also the official status within a classification. A separate app is not necessary; the function is available to all wineries, merchants, and consumers.
