The chatbot ChatGPT-4 has passed three stages of the theoretical exam to become a Master Sommelier, according to the US developers of OpenAI. In the process, the artificial intelligence achieved 92 per cent of the possible points in the introductory exam to the Court of Master Sommelier, 86 per cent in the Certified Sommelier exam and 77 per cent in the Advanced Sommelier exam.

The title "Master Sommelier", which is only awarded after extremely demanding theoretical and practical examinations, is considered the highest award for sommeliers worldwide, comparable to that of "Master of Wine" (MW). In March 2023, there are 295 Master Sommeliers.

The app ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence-based chatbot that interprets the user's questions and answers them in grammatically correct sentences. OpenAI has described the new version of the software as "less powerful than a human in many real-world scenarios". However, it said it now performs on a human level in various professional and academic tasks.
