The renowned Bordeaux vineyard Phélan Ségur in Saint-Estèphe has apparently been sold. Jancis Robinson announced on Twitter that the new owner of the vineyard in the Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel category is Philippe Van de Vyvere, owner of the Belgian logistics group Sea Invest.

There is no official confirmation of the parties involved at present, but "Drinks Business" reports that two months ago the Gardinier family, who had been running the estate since 1985, had already given discreet signals for a sale. According to Jancis Robinson, the employees are to be taken over completely, and the new owner is planning further investments. The reasons for the sale are currently unclear. In addition to the winery, the Gardinier family runs a luxury hotel in Champagne and a gourmet restaurant in Paris and London.

At the end of July 2017, the Bordeaux winery Troplong-Mondot was already sold to a French insurance group.
