The renowned Bordeaux Château Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac wants to massively rebuild and expand its wine production. An architectural competition is currently underway, five of which will be selected for the final round in the coming days. The decision is expected in April 2012. In particular, the area of wine production is to be expanded from 6,000 sqm to 10,500 sqm, almost doubling the total area. All new buildings are to be seamlessly integrated into the identity of the Lafite brand, it is said. The owner, Saskia de Rothschild, said in a video about the competition that she is not interested in a grand architectural gesture, but that the architecture should reflect the story of the château. Lafite estimates the cost at around 18 million euros.
