The champagne house Telmont wants to use lighter bottles in the future. These are more environmentally friendly and require less of the currently scarce raw material. The shape of the bottles will remain the same, but the weight will be only 800 grams instead of 835 grams. This was announced in a press release.

For the bottles currently used, the weight was already reduced from 900 to 835 grammes in 2010 by order of the Comité Interprofessionnel du Vin de Champagne (CIVC).

At Telmont, several projects are underway that deal with sustainability and climate protection. According to the company, only renewable energy is used, packaging material is saved and the supply chains are optimised. By 2031, the champagne house wants to convert all its own vineyards and those of its grape suppliers to organic cultivation. In addition, bottles made from 85 per cent recycled material are already being used. These initiatives also prompted US actor Leonardo DiCaprio to take a stake in Champagne Telmont in February.

A trial of 3,000 of the new bottles is currently underway to test their properties. The first light bottles could be used for the upcoming Telmont Réserve Brut, which is scheduled to go on sale in 2025.
