Champagne has achieved record sales in Germany in 2022. This is reported by the Comité Champagne. Champagne houses achieved a sales plus of 17.1 percent compared to 2021. "This suggests a strong demand for high-priced qualities and a lower demand for private labels," the Comité explained the steep increase.

According to the association's figures, 12.2 million bottles were sold to Germany last year, up from 11.17 million in 2021. That was an increase of 6.6 per cent in sales. The historical sales record in Germany was already reached in 1997 with 19.5 million bottles.

In Austria, the sales figures increased even more in 2022: there, champagne connoisseurs ordered 1.85 million bottles; in 2021, it was still 1.54 million. According to the Comité Champagne, this is 12.5 percent more than in the previous year. Champagne sales also increased very significantly in Austria and even reached an increase of 22.3 percent.

Worldwide, too, 2022 is a record year in turnover for the vintners and houses of Champagne. It was over six billion euros in 192 countries, after 5.7 billion euros in the previous year. 325.5 million bottles were delivered worldwide, a moderate increase of 1.2 per cent. However, strong global demand with limited availability led to significantly higher prices: Worldwide Champagne sales rose by 10.9 per cent compared to the previous year.
