Sales of champagne increased by 10.4 percent in Germany last year. Around 11.18 million bottles of champagne were imported, according to the latest figures from the umbrella organisation Comité Champagne. Germany is thus the fourth most important export market for the appellation. Only in France, the USA, Great Britain and Japan was more champagne drunk in 2021 than in Germany. Turnover also developed positively with a plus of 20.6 percent. So German wine lovers are drinking more and at the same time more expensive champagne. With 312.8 million exported bottles, the worldwide demand for champagne even exceeds the level before the pandemic. In France, too, sales increased by 25.3 per cent in 2021.
