The fierce dispute between champagne houses and winegrowers over the amount of the harvest is over. After long negotiations, the associations agreed on a harvest of 8,000 kg grapes per hectare. This quantity results in about 230 million bottles. That is over 25 percent less than in 2018: at that time, 10,800 kg of grapes per hectare were harvested. In 2019 the figure was 10,200 kg.

Due to the slump in sales caused by the Corona crisis, the champagne houses initially even wanted to reduce their output to only 6,000 to 7,000 kg per hectare. As a result, the representatives of the grape growers had broken off talks. The harvest already began on 17 August, two weeks before the long-term average.
