The French wine company Castel wants to revive the tradition of crémant in the Bordelais. The group owns, for example, the Nicolas retail chain, the Négociant Barrieres et frères, 15 Bordeaux-Châteaux and operations on the Loire and in the south of France. Since 2006, the Castel family has owned the Cru la Maqueline (AOC Bordeaux) with 64 hectares of vineyards. The first Bordeaux sparkling wine was created in 1892 under the then owner Nathaniel Johnson. The current owners have now taken up this tradition and presented their new Crémant Cru la Maqueline at the Vinexpo trade fair.

The first production is 6,000 bottles, which cost around 13 euros in the shops. The quantity is expected to increase with each year. With this, the wine company is counting on the further increasing sales figures of sparkling wine worldwide. Currently, there are only very few companies in Bordelais that produce sparkling wine.
