In a joint initiative of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Architects, the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Viticulture and the German Winegrowers' Association, the "Wine Architecture Award" will be announced for the fifth time. The deadline for applications is 10 November 2021 and the competition documents should be available from the beginning of September. The award ceremony is planned for April 2022 at the Intervitis Interfructa wine technology trade fair in Stuttgart.
With the "Architecture Award Wine", the institutions want to honour the "efforts and activities of the wine industry for an attractive appearance of their companies". The high quality of domestic wines and architecture are important success factors for tourism. For this reason, the German Wine Institute (DWI) is holding its own competition in 2021 specifically for wine businesses: "Excellent Vinotheques" will be sought in a multi-year rhythm and determined by a jury of experts. This year's winners will be announced on 29 September.
Projects such as wineries, complete facilities, buildings for cellar management and wine production, vinotheques, restaurants and hotels as well as outdoor facilities of wineries are eligible for submission. The projects must have been completed after 1 January 2016. In addition to new buildings, modernisations, renovations, conversions and conversions in connection with the preservation of historical monuments are also eligible. The jury attaches particular importance to resource-saving, sustainable projects. The size of the respective project is not decisive.
