The city of Dijon could receive its own appellation as early as next year. The application has been submitted to the French appellation authority INAO. The name would be "Bourgogne-Dijon" and would encompass the 23 municipalities of the extended region. These include Dijon, Daix, Plombières-les-Dijon, Talant, Corcelles-les-Monts, as well as Chenôve, Couchey, and Marsannay-la-Côte (image) in the south, which are already part of the Marsannay appellation. In total, 28 winemakers could use the name. They grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on 200 hectares.

Jean-Michel Verpillot, mayor of Marsannay-la-Côte and head of the project, stated that the designation could possibly be approved "in a few months.".
