During construction work on a bridge in Nebra (Saxony-Anhalt) a 130-year-old bottle of sparkling wine was discovered. It was stuck in a time capsule that was deposited during the construction of the bridge in 1886. The bottle, which is in good condition, contains a bottling from the wine shop Kloss und Foerster, the forerunner of the Rotkäppchen-Mumm beverage group, which is now majority-owned by the Eckes-Chantré family. This makes it the oldest sparkling wine bottle in the company's history,
At the presentation of the find by the city of Nebra, a company spokesperson announced that 1,000 euros would be donated to a charitable cause. The history of the Rotkäppchen-Mumm sparkling wine cellars began in 1856, when the brothers Moritz and Julius Kloss founded a wine shop with Carl Foerster in Freyburg an der Unstrut. The Rotkäppchen sparkling wine brand has been in existence since 1894.
