The frost of 2017 resulted in around 40 percent less wine in Bordelais than in 2016. This is reported by the "Decanter" based on figures from the CIVB winegrowers' association. According to these figures, the total damage for the winegrowers amounts to around 1.6 billion euros.

The regions of Margaux, Graves, Sauternes, Pomerol and St. Emilion were particularly hard hit, as were several others with harvest losses of between 50 and over 80 percent. The farms in Pauillac and St. Julien were lucky in the disaster. Their losses average less than 30 percent. Some parts of Pessac-Léognan and Entre-deux-Mers have also been badly damaged.

However, those in charge emphasize that the damage was very different in each region. Individual farms in regions badly affected by frost have also got away with only very minor damage, while neighbours have suffered losses of 80 to 100 percent. The CIVB intends to publish the exact figures and details of the damage in a few weeks' time after all the farms have been reported.
