The association of producers of Bordelais has now banned the chemical destruction of weeds. The 4,500 members had already passed a resolution to this effect two years ago. Once the details had been worked out, the ban would come into force for the 2019 vintage, the association announced.

In addition, dead vines must now be removed immediately from the vineyard and may no longer be stored there. In this way, the winegrowers want to reduce the risk of infection of healthy vines. Also obligatory for the wineries is now for the first time an exact documentation of the occurrence of pests and infections, including their treatment and the quantities used. In this way, the spraying calendar is to be individually optimised and thus the use of pesticides significantly reduced.
