Bordeaux is still the favourite wine of French consumers. This was the result of a survey for the e-commerce company Cavissima. In France, 78 percent of the population consume wine. 57 percent drink red wine, 40 percent white wine, 29 percent rosé and 26 percent sparkling wine. Only eight percent of the French drink wine from other countries. Among origins, 38 per cent prefer Bordeaux, with its popularity higher among men and over-65s than among women and under-35s. Burgundy is chosen by 36 percent, Rhône and Champagne by 25 percent each. There, too, the survey shows that strong red wines are more appreciated by older and male consumers, rosé and sparkling wines by younger people and women. The proportion of those who also drink foreign wines rises to 12 percent in the 35-49 age group.

The shift in purchases to the premium segment continues, as fewer and fewer people drink wine in everyday life, but more on special occasions. The over-65s tend to buy wines for less than 30 euros and also most under 15 euros, the younger ones tend to buy bottles for more than 30 euros. Most wines between 30 and 100 euros are bought by the 25 to 34 age group.
