The En Primeur campaign for Bordeaux 2024 offers significant discounts on Premier Crus and Super-Seconds. Château Mouton Rothschild (image) is being offered by the German dealer Lobenberg for 354 euros, reflecting a discount of 22 percent compared to 2023. Lafite Rothschild, Angélus, Cheval Blanc, and Montrose are approximately 30 percent cheaper than the previous year. Some wines are now priced at levels not seen in ten years or more. Leoville Barton, regarded as a Bordeaux with particularly good value for money, is priced at 68 euros, only 14 percent below its price from the previous year.
Nevertheless, demand is cautious, as reported by "Decanter." Some British traders speak of a "lack of urgency" among buyers. The Austrian dealer Kracher Fine Wine states on its website: "2024 is definitely not a great vintage; the weather conditions were just too complicated. There was too much rain, leading to a very high disease pressure. Our subscription offer will therefore be much smaller this year." One reason for the moderate mood in the trade is that some dealers from the USA have not yet placed orders for 2024 Bordeaux. They want to wait for the ongoing tariff negotiations before setting their prices.
Miles Davis from Vinum Fine Wines says: "It was clear from the beginning that this would be a difficult En Primeur campaign – but I think it has some interesting highlights."
