The German traditional wine association Bernkasteler Ring from the Mosel will allow Spätburgunder wines as Große Gewächse for the first time from the 2021 vintage. The wines will be on the market in 2023. There, as with Riesling, "the focus is to be on the particularity of the classified site and the expression of the terroir".
In this way, the Bernkasteler Ring is opening itself "to new developments" that will open up with the passing of the new German wine law. To this end, the association wants to honour "the special achievements and the pioneering position of the member wineries in the field of red wine production", according to a press release.
