Barolo winemaker and restaurateur Oreste Brezza **** (left in the picture) has died at the age of 92. He was a key figure in the wine world of Langhe and contributed to making the wine and gastronomy tradition of the area known. As the son of restaurateurs, he grew up amidst the aromas of Piedmontese cuisine. His father Giacomo was the head of the Trattoria della Filovia, a place that served as a rest stop on the only connection between Alba and Barolo. When his father died, he took over the restaurant and the family vineyards. Always by his side were his sister Franca and his late brother-in-law Bartolo Mascarello, with whom he shared his cultural and entrepreneurial vision.

“Oreste Brezza was one of the most significant entrepreneurs of Barolo. He was a balanced, cheerful, and intelligent person. With his commitment, which was always focused on the highest quality and hospitality, and thanks to his entrepreneurship, Brezza was one of the architects of the appellation,” said Fulvio Mazzocchi, mayor of the municipality of Barolo, in his obituary.

The Brezza winery and the restaurant with an attached hotel are now run by Oreste's children Enzo and Tiziana.
