The Spanish wine fair Barcelona Wine Week expects more than 1,100 exhibitors and 24,000 trade visitors from February 3 to 5, 2025. This means a new record for the fair, which opened for the first time in 2021.
This year's event focuses primarily on wines from historical vines. "Wines from ungrafted vines that are over 300 years old offer a journey through the history of Spanish wine culture," emphasizes Raúl Pérez, one of Spain's most renowned oenologists. Wines from Lanzarote, Pontevedra, and Valladolid provide insights into these rare treasures.
Another focus is on Spanish white wines, whose sales have increased enormously in recent years. In addition, the industry will discuss the challenges of climate change. "Adapting to drought and efficient water use are crucial topics for the future," explains winemaker and exhibitor Raventós Codorníu.
At the tasting "Her Signature Wines," winemakers like Mayte Calvo (Bodegas Bilbaínas) and Anne Cannan (Clos Figueres) will be in the spotlight. Additionally, the "Isabel Mijares Award" will be presented for the first time to honor outstanding women in the wine world. Jancis Robinson MW is among the prominent finalists. The program is complemented by the international wine tourism forum, which highlights projects from Bordeaux, Porto, Georgia, and China.
