The organic winery Balthasar Ress**** from Hattenheim in the Rheingau is bringing a vintage-less Riesling cuvée to market. The basis of the wine named "Decades" is the Solera system, in which barrels of aged Riesling from several vintages are continuously connected. This approach by the VDP winery focuses not on the individual vintage but on the development of the wine over longer periods.
For the first bottling, Rieslings from the years 2019 to 2023 were used. The Solera process is to be continued with each filling, ensuring that the style of the wine remains consistent over the long term while gaining complexity. Thus, the project is designed as a long-term concept that evolves with each further filling.
The grapes come exclusively from top sites in the Rheingau, including elevated locations around Hallgarten and warmer parcels in Hattenheim. Different terroirs shape the style of the cuvée, which is focused on structure, mineral tension, and aging potential.
Balthasar Ress will present the Riesling cuvée for the first time at ProWein from March 15 to 17 in Düsseldorf.
