The worldwide reopening of the gastronomy sector has brought Austria's wine industry rich export growth. From January to July, the volume of exported wines rose by around ten percent, the value even by 25 percent to 111 million euros. The increase is all the more remarkable because Austria's exports remained stable in the first half of 2020 despite Corona. The biggest increases in value were achieved in the most important export markets: Germany by 15 per cent, Switzerland by 21 per cent, the USA by 33 per cent, Belgium and the Netherlands by 37 per cent and the United Kingdom even by 52 per cent despite Brexit. The curves in Scandinavia and Asia as well as in Canada are also pointing steeply upwards. ÖWM (Österreich Wein Marketing) managing director Chris Yorke attributes the successful development to the intensive cultivation of contacts with international partners and the numerous events held worldwide.
