Due to the small harvest in 2016, the volume of Austrian wine exported in 2017 was slightly down by 3.3 percent, but surprisingly, the value was up by 7.4 percent. This is confirmed by the figures of the Austrian authority Statistik Austria.

According to these, wine from Austria was sold abroad for 158.6 million euros. This is a record value. For the first time in history, more than 150 million euros were exported. According to the figures, the arithmetical average value rose significantly from 3.05 euros per litre to 3.39 euros. Wine sales to Scandinavia, the Benelux countries, Great Britain, Russia, China, Hong Kong and Canada were mainly responsible for the export growth.

Willi Klinger, head of Österreich Wein Marketing (ÖWM), has announced an export offensive for 2018: "I am sure that we can set our sights on the 160 million mark. The winegrowers have a good and extensive harvest in their cellars. We will also appear at Prowein with this message", he said.
