The renowned wine and culinary expert August F. Winkler died on 31 January 2018. He was an author, journalist and columnist as well as editor of the monthly Gourmet&Wein-Report. Winkler wrote articles, columns, essays as well as books on the topics of wine, cuisine and lifestyle. He also became known to a large audience in Germany in the 1990s with his TV series "Auwi's Spätlese" on Sat.1. In addition, Winkler, who lives in Styria, has been active as a presenter of top-class gourmet events, tastings and menus, for example at the Rheingau Gourmet Festival.
August F. Winkler was regarded as one of the greatest and most important connoisseurs in Germany, Austria and Switzerland for champagne, sweet wine and mature Bordeaux, for example, with an enormous wealth of knowledge and experience. His work has been honoured with dozens of awards, honours and prizes. Until December 2017 he published texts on his website "Die Feinschmeckerey".
