The association "Great Ring VDP.Mosel-Saar-Ruwer" has decided on a strategic realignment of its traditional wine auction. The goal is to further strengthen the international character of the event. Additionally, private collectors worldwide should gain better access to top Rieslings from the region.
The auctions focus on high-quality Rieslings from the Mosel growing area, which also includes the vineyards along the tributaries Saar and Ruwer. Only "VDP.Prädikatsweine" and "VDP.Grosse Gewächse" from a vintage, which are only available through this auction, will be auctioned. The offering is complemented by selected rarities from older vintages. The auction serves as a marketing channel for many of the currently 31 member businesses for their top wines.
The next auction featuring wines from the 2025 vintage will take place on Sunday, May 9, 2027. Previously, the date was always in November. According to the organizers, this is no longer ideal due to the increasingly advanced grape harvest and scheduling conflicts with important trading partners. The auction will again be led by Edwin Vos, auctioneer at Christie’s Auctioneers in London (in the picture). International collectors, dealers, and importers, as well as representatives from the gastronomy sector, are expected.
Founded in 1908, the association is a regional group of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP). It continues an auction tradition that dates back to the mid-19th century. Historically, Mosel wines have achieved internationally recognized record prices at these auctions.
