The Italian sparkling wine Asti Spumante has been able to increase its exports by 9.7 percent in the first half of 2022 compared to the same period last year. This is confirmed by the Asti Spumante and Moscato d'Asti consortium. One country's growth is particularly striking: 4.18 million bottles went to Russia in the first six months of this year. This corresponds to an increase of 33 percent compared to the first half of 2021. Despite the Ukraine war and the economic difficulties, the demand for Asti Spumante in Russia is picking up. Overall, 90 percent of Asti Spumante is sold abroad. After Russia, the most important export countries for Asti are Great Britain and the USA. In 2021, 60 million bottles of Asti Spumante and 42 million bottles of Moscato d'Asti were produced, which corresponds to a turnover of 400 million euros.

The director of the Asti consortium, Giacomo Pondini, aims to expand the area under cultivation by 300 hectares in the coming years, which is equivalent to a production of three million bottles.
