The Association of Traditional Sparkling Wine Makers has presented the "Sektmacher Réserve" line. These sparkling wines are produced according to very strict criteria and are identified by a specially designed signet on the bottles. In addition, the responsible persons have released a specification in which the rules for admission to the association as well as quality requirements and monitoring are laid down.
Accordingly, a sparkling wine from the traditional Sektmacher must be produced using traditional methods with a purely German origin and aged for twelve months lees ageing. For Sektmacher Réserve, the following criteria also apply: 100 percent manual harvest, whole grape pressing with a maximum yield of 50 percent, at least 36 months lees ageing, sensory and taste maximum Brut. The purchase of grapes is permitted, but not of must or base wines. A recognition test is also required for release. Initially, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier are permitted as grape varieties. Regionally relevant varieties as well as Piwis are to follow if required. Currently, 34 wine and sparkling wine estates belong to the association.
