The European Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) warns against news and social media posts that alcoholic beverages could protect against the corona virus. This is reported by the news agency dpa. "Fear and misinformation have created a dangerous myth that the consumption of high-proof alcohol can kill the Covid-19 virus. It doesn't," the Copenhagen regional office is quoted by dpa.

Alcohol, on the other hand, is associated with a number of diseases that could make a person even more susceptible to Covid-19. "Therefore, people should minimize their alcohol consumption at all times, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic," the WHO said according to dpa.

Access to alcoholic beverages during the period of strict curfews should therefore even be restricted, the organisation warned according to the report. It is known "that alcohol is bad for health in general and increases the risk of injury and violence".
