As of now, the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture is paying out 180 million euros in aid for farms particularly affected by the energy crisis. Winegrowers are also entitled to support. According to the Social Insurance for Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture (SVLFG), about 3.7 million euros will go to 4,877 wineries. The majority is paid out to meat-producing farms (keeping sows and fattening pigs), which receive a total of 52.5 percent of the aid. The aid is linked to the EU's sustainability criteria. Only those who have already received a so-called greening premium for certain sustainable land management methods in 2021 are entitled to the support. In this way, the group of eligible farms can be clearly determined and the money can be paid out without an application procedure.

Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir said of the aid: "We are giving farmers a helping hand so that they can shoulder the high energy prices. As of today, our targeted aid will be paid out to almost 42,000 farms that have been hit particularly hard by the increased energy costs. Around 135 million euros will reach the farms this month. We are making things as simple as possible for farmers: they will receive the money in a non-bureaucratic way, without the hassle of paperwork or application procedures."
