More than 8,500 wine fans took part in the "Virtual Wine Tour" of the German Wine Institute (DWI) from 06th to 15th November. It was organized as a replacement for the wine and tourism fairs in Munich, Essen and Hamburg, which were cancelled due to the Corona pandemic.

The 2,200 wine packages prepared for this purpose, each containing four bottles from a portfolio of 88 producers, were already sold out two weeks before the start. On average, two to four people at each logged-in device followed the online tastings, the DWI reported. The sample bottles supplied in 50ml format, which contained every wine in the normal bottles, were particularly well received. They were designed to be opened on screen during the tastings. The DWI had compiled the tasting packages on 22 themes: from a selection of different Burgundy wines to a collection of cuvées and bouquet wines.
