Champagne producer Yann Vadin was sentenced to 25 years in prison for the murder of his father Jean-Luc Vadin just a few days ago. This was reported by the French news site Franceinfo. The heir of the Champagne house Vadin-Plateau admitted to shooting his father on September 30, 2022, in his residence in Cumières. He cited feeling overwhelmed and ongoing disputes as motives. The prosecution also mentioned his embezzlement of over 200,000 euros from the family company to finance his luxurious lifestyle – including four horses. This was discovered by the father.
Yann Vadin staged the act as a burglary. The police found him at the crime scene crying with bloodied hands as he tried to give his father CPR. Windows were smashed, door locks were broken, and documents were scattered. In the days that followed, he posted tributes and expressions of grief for his father on social media. As more and more evidence mounted against him, the police arrested him. Initially, Yann Vadin claimed it was an "accidental shot." However, three gunshot wounds were found on the corpse. He also had an explanation for that: he did not want his father to suffer. In pre-trial detention, he eventually confessed to the act, stating: "I had reached a point where it was either me or him."
Yann Vadin represented the ninth generation at the Vadin-Plateau winery, which owns seven hectares, including Premier Cru sites. It is now run by his sister Aurélie Robinet and his mother Muriel Vadin.
