The wine per capita consumption in Germany amounted to 20.9 litres in the past wine year, 0.2 litres less than in the same period last year. This was reported by the German Wine Institute (DWI) on the basis of the wine consumption balance sheet calculated by the German Winegrowers' Association.

These figures are based on the total volume of wine consumed in Germany of 17.2 million hectolitres, in relation to the total German population of 82.5 million inhabitants.

If one adds to the 3.5 litres of sparkling wine consumption, which remained stable compared to the previous year, this results in a per capita consumption of 24.4 litres of wine and sparkling wine in Germany with a total volume of around 20 million hectolitres.

The wine consumption balance is based on the official data of the Federal Statistical Office on wine production, the stock situation and imports and exports.
