In Italy, around 107,000 ha of vineyards were certified organic in 2019. This is about 19 percent of the total Italian cultivated area and thus the highest share of organic cultivation worldwide. These figures were published in a report by the Italian Ministry of Agriculture together with the Istituto di Servizi per il Mercato Agricolo Alimentare (ISMEA). Within ten years, this area has grown by 109 percent. According to the figures, just under 23 percent of the land in northern Italy is farmed organically; on Sardinia and Sicily and the other islands, the share is already over 29 percent.
