The 160th wine auction in Beaune ended this weekend with a result that was pleasing for the organizers. The auction proceeds of 13.4 million euros is the second highest in its history, the organizers announced. A new record was set by the traditionally offered 228-liter barrique under the name "Pièce des Présidents". It contained Clos de la Roche Grand Cru from the Maison Albert Bichot and achieved 660,000 euros. The buyer is a Chinese citizen not known by name. A total of 474 barrels of Pinot Noir and 156 barrels of Chardonnay were put up for auction for a good cause. Due to corona restrictions, only 170 instead of the usual 500 bidders could be admitted.
