For all those who receive the newsletter from wein.plus or mails with membership information, Melanie Bockelmann from Munich does a lot of work. After all, digital communication is one of the many areas she specialises in. Precisely prepared and timed newsletters and mails are only part of her work for wein.plus.

Melanie Bockelmann

For the partner company Wein-Plus Solutions, she currently organises digital wine events to which often more than ten thousand interested people click in - for example, the "WeinTour" of the German Wine Institute (DWI). Before the Corona pandemic, she took over the management of large indoor and outdoor events.

Melanie knows her way around wine, events and gastronomy: She studied communication sciences and gained many years of experience as an event manager. She designed events and organised events, trade fairs and exhibitions. After she met Alexander Schreck and Utz Graafmann by chance - and through the mediation of a mutual acquaintance - everything happened very quickly: she became a permanent part of the team, initially as an event organiser. For a long time, Melanie only worked for Wein-Plus Solutions. Because it was a perfect fit, she has also been the mailing specialist for wein.plus since 2021.

Her connection to wine developed through wine tastings in Rheinhessen: Her family took her to the hilly wine-growing region on the Rhine. At the wineries, the children were allowed to taste grape juice and see the wine cellars. This is how her interest in wine and its effect on what we describe as "enjoyment" developed at an early age.

Over time, Melanie acquired a small body of knowledge. This was not formed through great studies, but only by tasting. Some wines did not taste good, many others she liked. She is now expanding this experience through her work at wein.plus.

What do you like to do most in your free time?

I spend a lot of time outdoors with my Hovawart (dog breed, editor's note). He is currently training to be an area search dog in the rescue dog team. I am very busy with his training, which not only takes place in the search, but also on the dog field and in everyday life. But there is also time for leisurely walks around the lake or I just let my mind wander in the mountains. I am also a passionate hobby cook and like to invite friends over to cook and drink wine together.

One of your rescue dogs finds a missing person under your responsibility and saves his life. What drink do you celebrate this with?

That is definitely worth celebrating! However, as missing persons are usually found at night or in the early hours of the morning, I would probably celebrate this great achievement with a large cappuccino with white chocolate syrup. But should we ever find something during the day, a bottle of Blanc de Noirs brut nature from the SM Sektmanufaktur is a good choice for me and my team colleagues in the rescue dog squad.

Wine has become a business for you, with a hard, often very stressful and long working day. Has its enjoyment changed for you as a result?

The knowledge I have built up at wein.plus has made my enjoyment even more intense. I drink good wine more consciously. Depending on the occasion, I decide whether to open an "everyday wine" or something special. Experience has shown that every day can be a special day! Enjoyment, cooking and conviviality are what make life worth living for me.

If you could go to a desert island with only your dog and a bottle of wine: Which would you pack?

That's difficult to answer. On an island in the sea, I'd rather take a big bottle of water to share with my dog. And I wouldn't like to commit to just one good wine. My taste always adapts to the mood.
