Christoph has been part of the team at wein.plus since May 2020. His tasks include all accounting and human resources in the bookkeeping department. He likes the intensive work at the desk as well as the thousand pitfalls in detail, the complexity that columns of figures and spreadsheet programmes bring with them. Wine is pleasure, numbers are passion. That's just right for him.
Christoph Brohm was born in Neu-Ulm, his family lived on the other side of the Danube in Ulm. The border between Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg runs between the two towns. His parents were transferred within Germany every few years for professional reasons and moved with Christoph, for example to Kiel. If you ask him about his origins, his answer is therefore that he grew up as a "Süweno". The abbreviation stands for the south, west and north of Germany. Only East Germany is missing from his biography for completeness.
Eventually, the family ended up in the Nuremberg-Fürth-Erlangen region. After moving out of his parents' house, Christoph stayed there. He is now married and the father of two children. He started his professional career with an apprenticeship as a travel agent and was involved in organising business trips for corporate clients for many years. After that, he switched to the Meetings & Events sector. Christoph also worked there for quite a long period of time until he switched to wein.plus.
After work, he has been treating himself to a good glass of red wine from time to time for many years. After-work beer? Not his thing. "Wine has always tasted better to me than beer," he says. But wait: he rarely says no to good coffee and chocolate. "Too rarely," he adds and laughs.
Do you have any preferences when it comes to wine?
I like southern European red wines, such as Barolo or Rioja. However, I'm not a wine professional and don't know much about it. But I think to myself: surely the southern European sun does something to the grapes that tastes good to me. In Germany, however, I also find what I'm looking for in Baden Spätburgunders. My two most important criteria when choosing are simple: I like it or I don't like it. The only constant here is red wine - I have always remained faithful to that. My wife is responsible for the white wine. So it can happen that we have red and white on the table at the same time. Red wine produces the better wine taste in my palate.
Has your relationship with wine changed since you started working at wein.plus?
At wein.plus I am busy every day with the administrative tasks that come with my job. But if I want to know something about wine, there is always someone I can ask who knows the answer. In this way, every now and then, new wine knowledge comes along that I have picked up in some corner of the office. In this way, I learn very interesting aspects that I didn't know before I started working at wein.plus.
You love wine and chocolate. Have you ever tried to combine the two?
Absolutely! My tip: On holiday, sit on the terrace in the evening with a glass of red wine and a really good box of chocolates! Simply dreamy! In everyday life it happens that my wife and I enjoy a glass of wine with the evening TV programme and the children decide that we now have to eat a chocolate together. Can I say no? No. But please, no dark chocolate, because Dad doesn't like that.
