Actually, Johannes Leitz should have had a harder time of it: The Rheingau only launches its Grosse Gewächse wines one year later – and Leitz is one of the Rheingau winegrowers who only presented their wines to us when they were launched on the market. His 2022s therefore had to assert themselves against plenty of competition from 2023. We are in awe of how well they managed to do this despite the difficult vintage. The wines are not only first-class, they also show highly individual character from vineyard to vineyard. But not only the 2022 Rieslings are worth recommending, the Chardonnays also pleasantly surprised us.
