Powerful white wines are not exactly in trend. Many wine lovers wrinkle their noses when the label states more than 12.5% alcohol. However, there are not only many excellent white wines in significantly higher weight classes, but they also fit much better in autumn than light and fresh whites.

Even our autumn dishes like stews, roasts, mushroom ragouts, pâtés, quiches, or casseroles demand substantial wines. But our spirits also want to be warmed when it’s gray and wet outside. And first of all, the right red wine is not always found for everything, secondly, a little variety never hurts, and thirdly, there are also people who prefer to drink whites anyway.

That’s why we have compiled what we have tasted in the past weeks of robust white wines with 13.5% alcohol and more. We were admittedly surprised ourselves at how many there were. And above all: how many of them were really good!

We present over 100 wines that scored 90 points and more, sorted by country of origin. In addition, there are almost 30 between 8 and 15 euros that are worth much more than they cost.
