The wine scene in Greece has undergone considerable changes, especially since the great sovereign debt crisis. Not least the weakness of the domestic market has forced wineries to increasingly compete on the international stage. This has not harmed the quality. In addition, the next generation of Greek winemakers has been able to gain experience at first-class wineries around the globe and is gradually returning home with new ideas and a wealth of know-how.

However, this does not necessarily mean a focus on international grape varieties - in fact, the opposite seems to be the case. Even if good qualities are produced from all varieties: It is particularly exciting when autochthonous grape varieties are involved. Ideally, you then have to deal with wines that you can't find anywhere else.

We tasted around 150 wines from Greece last year. With this, we can only represent a small part of this dynamic Greek wine scene, but hopefully we can arouse enough interest to take a closer look at their wines in the future. It could be worthwhile. It could be worthwhile.

As always, we present the best results here and in a handy PDF presentation. Links to other wines and their producers can be found at the end of each vintage selection.
