It was only during the evening that I really realised how good the wine - especially this vintage - is. And today, when I googled it, I was almost shocked by the prices. Of course I knew what I was getting out of the cellar. Of course it was only clear that I was drinking a little "preciousness" here. But the 1990 vintage - the showpiece year of the 90s, so to speak - has to go into the glass gradually, even if one likes to "save up" something like this. For whom, until when, why...? This was going through my mind when I reached for the bottle. An "ordinary" day, Saturday, just before a major trip. Why not now.
At first I just nodded appreciatively. Good, yes, quite good. But the longer the wine was open and in the decanter (or in the glass), the better it became. Nobly soft, profound, harmonious - with every sip it became "bigger". I am cautious with such compliments, it could also be due to me, to my mood, to my current state of mind, to comparisons with wines I have drunk recently.
