What negative effects does wine have on health?
Positive effects of wine consumption only apply to moderate wine consumption. Various sources say that about two glasses of wine per day should be considered the upper limit, with slightly less for women and slightly more for men. However, these values are only rough guidelines. Other values may apply in individual cases, depending on certain pre-existing conditions. How much wine or alcohol is permissible for a specific person can only be judged by the attending physician!
Too much wine consumption can reverse the positive effects; moreover, the side effects become more and more prominent. Known risks and side effects include:
- Development of hepatitis, fatty liver and cirrhosis of the liver
- Inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis)
- increased risk of cardiovascular disease
- Lack of vitamins (important: vitamin B12) and nutrients
- increased risk of stroke
- psychological changes with mood swings, overestimation and increased risk of accidents
- Nervous system disorders
- Hormone disorders
- Dependence, addiction
- and many more
