Strong temperature fluctuations in winter and spring were followed in Lower Austria in 2017 by one of the warmest and, above all, driest summers since temperature records began over 250 years ago. September, of all months, was rather wet and thus delayed the early harvest, but the good conditions in October made up for the shortcoming, so that not only good qualities but also large quantities were harvested in large parts of the region.

It was to be feared that the 2017 would turn out particularly thick and alcohol-rich due to the hot summer, but far from it! Especially the Grüner Veltliners, which sometimes tend to be a bit fat, are in top form as fresh, taut, precise and juicy as one could wish for, and at the same time no less complex and mineral than the equally impressive Rieslings.

We tasted 85 Rieslings and Veltliners from the Kamptal DAC for this BEST OF, plus several other wines from Kamptal wineries. We present the best DAC wines here and, as always, also as PDF forward. You can find links to all the wines tasted and their producers with detailed descriptions by clicking on the headlines.
