2017 seems to be an exceptionally successful vintage for German Pinot Noir. Against the backdrop of the challenges posed by climate change, this is an all the more remarkable finding, as it shows that domestic producers are not helplessly lagging behind developments.
German Wine Institute (DWI)

At the same time, many wines have a certain extra warmth and maturity, and the heavyweights with a lot of alcohol and often enough wood are far from extinct. They exist in convincing form, no question, but Pinot Noirs with 14% alcohol and more, which do not become exhausting by the second glass at the latest, are not to be found too often, even among the best in this weight class. After all, Pinot Noir lives from its subtleties.

The best wines of the vintage undoubtedly possess these subtleties, no less those from earlier years that have only recently come onto the market or are still to come. We can therefore look forward to more 2017 top wines in the coming months and years.

The number of producers who focus on elegant, delicate Pinots continues to increase year after year. And not only at the top. At the risk of repeating ourselves, those who focus their attention only on the absolute top wines are missing out. Hardly anywhere is the quality of the affordable Pinot Noirs between 10 and 20 euros as high as it is in Germany at the moment. We can therefore only advise our readers to follow the links and look at the results of all the Pinots tasted this year. Unfortunately, it is difficult for us to make our own list of the price-performance winners of the vintage, because we do not receive price information from too many producers. Therefore, here is an unfortunately somewhat incomplete selection of the best German Pinots up to 20€.

We have tasted well over 400 wines for this BEST OF over the last few months. As always, the best results can be found here and as PDF. Links to all wines with detailed tasting notes as well as their producers can be found behind the vintage headings.
