2014 is undoubtedly one of the most difficult vintages for Brunello di Montalcino since long. It is all the more astonishing how many wineries were able to bottle very good to excellent qualities due to strict selection. The best wines of the vintage are juicy, lively, and fresh, and some producers even give more pleasure than their counterparts from officially much larger vintages. This may not least be due to the almost throughout sparingly moderate alcohol, but of course also to the care with which the top people obviously worked.
Once again, the best 2013 Riserve are of a completely different class. Rarely have we had a similar series of inspiring Brunello on the table, which manage to combine concentration, power and depth with subtlety and freshness
